Andrew is a Wildland Fire Specialist with three seasons of professional
experience within the National Park Service and four years at military
installations and university research centers. He has held positions
as fire science specialist, as primary author of the U.S. Army Hawaii
(USARHAW) Wildland Fire Management Plan, as incident commander on wildland
fire incidents, and as ignition boss on prescribed fires. While holding
these positions he has provided the following services: - Development and implementation of numerous fire science
and management projects for USARHAW including creating and validating
a custom model of fuels specific to USARHAW training areas and custom
fire danger rating systems tailored to the unique needs of the military
- Fire monitoring
- Exotic plant control
- Rehabilitation of disturbed environments
- Greenhouse propagation of plants.
Andrew has also researched fire ecology, specifically, Bromus tectorum
(cheatgrass) in the intermountain west; fire behavior modeling in exotic
grasses in Hawaii; fire ecology and management in exotic and natural
habitats in Hawaii; solutions to large scale fuel management issues
throughout the western U.S.; and elk/willow interactions in the Rocky
Mountains. He holds an M.S. in Forestry from Colorado State University. |
